TALLAHASSEE, Fla., June 30 (UPI) -- Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, now an independent candidate for Senate, is listed as a potential witness against the former state Republican chief.
An affidavit from Crist was among the thousands of pages of documents state prosecutors released Tuesday, the Orlando Sentinel reported. Jim Greer is charged with stealing thousands of dollars from the Republican Party while he was state chairman through a company he set up called Victory Strategies LLC.
"Prior to Mr. Greer's resignation as chairman, I had never heard of Victory Strategies LLC," Crist said.
Greer was Crist's choice for party chairman.
The Office of State Prosecution also released an agreement with Delmar Johnson, the party's former executive director. In return for repaying $65,000 and cooperating completely with investigators, Johnson is to be spared prison, probation, a fine or a criminal record, while Greer could get as much as 75 years.
"It sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me," said Don Lykkebak, a Greer lawyer.
