DETROIT, June 29 (UPI) -- A longtime friend and aide to former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has provided little "substantive assistance" to investigators, prosecutor say.

In a motion filed Monday, the prosecutors asked a judge to sentence DeDan Milton, 37, to three to five years in federal prison, The Detroit News reported. Milton, who pleaded guilty in February to getting kickbacks from the sale of city-owned property, is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mark Chutkow and Michael Bullotta argued Milton is not entitled to a break for cooperating with an investigation into corruption in Detroit's government.

"Although Mr. Milton has spoken with law enforcement agents since pleading guilty, his information has not amounted to substantial assistance in the government's investigation," they said.

Kilpatrick, now imprisoned for violating probation on a state charge, was indicted last week on federal fraud and tax charges.

The prosecutors said Jerry Rivers, a former Detroit police officer who served in the executive protection unit, was more helpful to investigators. Rivers is also to be sentenced Wednesday, and the prosecutors recommended 15 to 19 months.
