SEATTLE, June 26 (UPI) -- Early birds in the United States and Canada got a rare treat Saturday in the form of a partial eclipse of the moon astronomers said was naturally magnified.
The position of the full moon near the horizon in the Central and Pacific time zones -- as well as in parts of Asia -- tended to make it look larger than normal and the color changes caused by the eclipse more dramatic, Space.com reported via the Christian Science Monitor.
Judy Mason of the Eastside Astronomy Club in Seattle told the Seattle Times the coloring would be "pretty nice."
The event reached its maximum at 4:40 a.m. in the Pacific time zone and shortly before dawn on the east coast.
The BBC said the entire eclipse lasted about 3 hours and was total primarily over the Pacific Ocean. It was not visible in Europe and Africa.
