MILWAUKEE, June 16 (UPI) -- Federal agents killed an alleged leader of the Outlaws motorcycle gang in Maine during raids in which 27 people were arrested in seven states.
Thomas "Tomcat" Mayne, 58, was shot dead Tuesday at his home in Old Orchard Beach, the Boston Herald reported. Glenn Anderson, special agent in charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in Boston, said a SWAT team was met with gunfire.
Those arrested face charges that include drug trafficking, attempted murder, witness intimidation and kidnapping, investigators said.
A 12-count indictment was unsealed Tuesday that charges Outlaws chief Jack "Milwaukee Jack" Rosga with running a criminal organization, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported. Rosga was arrested at dawn Tuesday in a raid on the Milwaukee clubhouse.
In raids in the Boston area in Bridgewater and Brockton, agents made two arrests and seized notes of meetings and other papers, the Herald said. They also confiscated gear that included T-shirts and patches.
Investigators described the Outlaws as "a highly organized criminal enterprise with a defined, multilevel chain of command."
