It's Berg vs. Pomeroy for N.D. House seat

BISMARCK, N.D., June 9 (UPI) -- Rick Berg easily won North Dakota's Republican congressional primary election Tuesday and will face Democratic incumbent Earl Pomeroy this fall, results showed.

With 473 of 505 precincts tallied, Berg, a state representative, had 89.3 percent of the vote to 10.6 percent for oilfield consultant J.D. Donaghe. Pomeroy, who has represented North Dakota in the House since 1993, ran unopposed on the Democratic side.

There was no primary competition for the GOP and Democratic candidates vying to replace Byron Dorgan in the U.S. Senate. State Sen. Tracy Potter, a Democrat, will battle Gov. John Hoeven, a Republican, in the general election campaign, along with Libertarian candidate Keith J. Hanson.

Dorgan surprised the political world in January when he announced he would not seek re-election. Hoeven had been leading Dorgan in the polls up to that point, and a recent survey showed him with a wide margin over Potter.
