Palin calls for Alaska oil drilling

WASILLA, Alaska, June 2 (UPI) -- In the wake of the Gulf Coast oil spill, Sarah Palin is promoting the controversial proposal of drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, observers said.

The former Alaska governor wrote on her Twitter account Tuesday about the untapped oil and gas reserves in the 20 million-acre protected area, CNN reported.

"Xtreme Greenies: see now why we push 'drill, baby, drill' of known reserves & promising finds in safe onshore places like ANWR? Now do you get it?" the former Republican vice presidential candidate wrote.

In the 2008 presidential campaign Palin pushed strongly for drilling both offshore and in ANWR, a proposal she repeatedly pushed with her now-famous phrase, "Drill, baby, drill."

Palin posted a similar message last week after President Obama announced a six-month moratorium on deep offshore drilling, CNN said.

"Deep offshore moratorium? Then correspondingly allow more onshore drilling, incl ANWR reserves. Domestic oil's still required in US industry," she tweeted Thursday.
