The accidental shooting occurred Monday in Great Cacapon, W.Va., when the boy walked in front of an adult female relative as she discharged a .22-caliber revolver during target practice, police said.

No charges are pending in the investigation, which showed the person who fired the revolver was not under the influence of alcohol or medication at the time, police said.

The Herald-Mail in Hagerstown, Md., reported Morgan County, W.Va., Deputy Sheriff Tony Link said the woman, whose name wasn't released, had no experience with guns and fired the revolver while another family member was teaching her how to shoot.

Link said he was told a "100 percent recovery" was expected for the boy.
