Trump faces protests over Scotland plans

ABERDEEN, Scotland, May 26 (UPI) -- Protesters greeted Donald Trump as he arrived in Aberdeen, Scotland, for discussions on his plan to build a $1.4 billion golf resort, observers said.

The luxury golf and residential project has divided local opinion, and some residents say they'll refuse to sell their land to the American billionaire, The Scotsman reported Wednesday.

A group calling itself Tripping Up Trump has purchased some of the land of one of those refusing to sell, the newspaper said.

"Tripping Up Trump now own a piece of my land," Michael Forbes said, "in an effort to help protect my family and the other families worried by the threat of compulsory purchase."

"Trump lost the battle for public opinion long ago," he added, "and he's now lost any chance of bulldozing our homes."

Aberdeenshire officials say they won't rule out using compulsory purchase orders to force residents off their land.

Questioned whether he would ask for compulsory orders, Trump said, "I'm going to speak to the council. It's going to be their decision."
