Girl, 14, admits part in gang slaying

CAMDEN, N.J., May 26 (UPI) -- A 14-year-old New Jersey girl has admit she helped torture and kill a young woman whose boyfriend was involved in a gang dispute.

Shatara Carter agreed Tuesday to a proceeding in adult court and then entered a plea of guilty to aggravated manslaughter, the Philadelphia Daily News reported. She received a 20-year prison sentence and must serve at least 17 years.

Carter, who was known by the street name Fiesty Ru, described the killing of Muriah Huff, 18, of Cinnaminson in a Camden row house on Feb. 22. She said a male gang member pistol-whipped Huff.

"He told me and my homegirl to finish her off," Carter said.

Huff was beaten with a chair until it broke, strangled and stabbed, Carter said. She and her boyfriend, Michael "Doc Money" Hawkins, 23, of Mount Holly, were found buried in the back yard of the house three days later.

Ten adults and juveniles have been charged in connection with the killings, with all the juveniles now facing adult treatment in the courts. Carter was the first to plead guilty.

Huff's family, sitting in the courtroom, did not respond when Carter offered an apology.
