Flight diverted because of turbulence

May 26, 2010 at 10:32 AM

MONTREAL, May 26 (UPI) -- A United Airlines flight from London to Los Angeles was diverted to Montreal after air turbulence injured 10 people, the airline said.

Flight 935, with three pilots, 12 flight attendants and 196 passengers, encountered severe turbulence over the Atlantic Ocean Tuesday and landed in Montreal, where nine passengers and a crew member were taken to a hospital, CNN reported. The injuries were not life-threatening.

An aircraft from Chicago was sent to take the remaining passengers and crew to Los Angeles, United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy said.

The jet that encountered the turbulence will be inspected for any possible damage, McCarthy said.
