Mother said Josh Powell threatened her
PROVIDENCE, R.I., May 11 (UPI) -- A 14-year-old Rhode Island girl has been charged with stabbing her mother during a fight about nude photos she had sent on her cell phone.
A family court judge ruled Monday that police had probable cause to arrest the teen, The Providence Journal reported. The mother, Ruth Williams, 30, survived the stabbing.
"Her mother tried to discipline her child, and that didn't work because she was going to do what she wanted to do," Judge Kathleen Voccola said. "And when she was confronted with her mother's attempt to discipline her, she stabbed her."
The girl was arrested April 22 after police found her in the basement of the Providence building where she and her mother lived. She is being held in the state Training School.
Williams said she had had problems in the past with her daughter "sexting" or sending sexual pictures of herself. She testified during the argument April 22 her daughter picked up a knife and then stabbed her with it after she hit the teen with a broom.
Voccola said the teen showed "no sign of empathy or compassion" when she left her mother bleeding in the kitchen and went to the basement.
