'Geezer Bandit' robs ninth San Diego bank

SANTEE, Calif., May 11 (UPI) -- Authorities say it appears San Diego's increasingly notorious "Geezer Bandit" struck again Tuesday, holding up a bank in nearby Santee.

San Diego County Sheriff's Department says an elderly suspect hit a Bank of America branch, making off with an undisclosed haul.

Police and the FBI have been trying to track down the wily robber, who is allegedly behind nine bank robberies in the county in recent months. He earned his nickname due to the fact he appears to be 60- to 70 years old and wears large, thick glasses.

The bandit is no lovable senior citizen. He has told at least two tellers he is armed and discreetly displayed a pistol two weeks ago at a bank in Vista, according to KNSD-TV, San Diego.

KNSD said the teller in Vista told investigators the suspect's hands looked strange, which has led the FBI to suspect the Geezer Bandit is actually a younger man disguised with a high-quality mask and gloves.
