Mexican drug kingpin gets 20 years

COLORADO SPRINGS, May 10 (UPI) -- Mexican cocaine trafficker Miguel Arriola was sentenced by a federal judge in Colorado to 20 years in prison, officials said Monday.

Arriola, 42, who was sentenced Friday in Colorado Springs, also will serve four years of supervised released following his prison term and pay a $250,000 fine, the U.S. Justice Department said in a release.

Arriola had been indicted in 2003, was extradited in 2007 and pleaded guilty in 2009.

Authorities had seized 2,300 kilograms of cocaine and $10 million in cash from the drug-running operation allegedly led by Arriola and his brother Oscar. Charges against Oscar Arriola are still pending.
