N.Y. fraternity suspended for 3 years

ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 4 (UPI) -- A New York university fraternity was suspended from the school for three years due to underage drinking, hazing and other violations, officials said.

The administrative hearing board of the University of Rochester found the fraternity, Psi Upsilon, in violation of the school's judicial code because it failed to obtain medical attention for severe intoxication, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported Tuesday.

The board also found that members of the fraternity engaged in underage consumption of alcohol, hazed new members, pressured minors to consume alcohol and used marijuana, the newspaper reported.

The fraternity has lost its university affiliation until September 2013, the board sanctions provided.

University officials said no serious injuries stemmed from the violations.

Residents of the fraternity's house may remain there through exams or commencement, but the house is off-limits to non-residents.
