SANTA ANA, Calif., April 27 (UPI) -- A federal judge has sentenced a former FBI agent and an accomplice to 30-year prison terms for planning to rob a drug stash house in California.
Ex-agent Vo Duong Tran and Yu Sung Park were caught in a law enforcement sting operation involving a drug stash house that didn't really exist, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.
The two men were secretly recorded planning the details of the robbery with an undercover federal agent and an informant.
The stash house reportedly contained more than $500,000 in cash.
Tran and Park were arrested in possession of bulletproof vests, a machine gun and other weapons they intended to use in the robbery.
Tran was fired from the FBI in 2003 after being suspended for admitting he tried to bribe a foreign official while on a personal trip to Vietnam.
Sentencing for Tran and Park took place on Monday.
