"Iran has no need to build S-300 missiles," Brig.-Gen. Ahmad Vahidi told reporters, referring to the number designating Russia's long-range missiles. "We have no such program.
He noted Iran recently has built a medium-range missile system, the Mersad, or Ambush, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
The Tehran Times noted the U.S. Defense Department said in an April 19 report that Iran might be able to build ballistic missiles capable of reaching North America by 2015.
Vahidi said recent statements by U.S. officials that Iran intends to build long-range missiles are part of a "psychological warfare against Iran," IRNA said.
