Child porn suspect arrested in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 19 (UPI) -- An Ohio man suspected of making sexually explicit videos of children is in custody in Columbus, authorities say.

Lowell W. "Dusty" Thompson, 52, of Mount Sterling was picked up for a traffic violation Saturday in Franklin County and a check of his driver's license turned up a federal warrant seeking him for pornography charges, The Columbus Dispatch reported Monday.

Mount Sterling police had questioned Thompson late last month after two 8-year-old girls told authorities he had videotaped them engaging in a sex act with each other, the newspaper said. One girl alleged he recorded himself having sex with her.

A federal affidavit states Thompson has admitted to producing 10- to 15 child pornography videos. Mount Sterling Police Chief Michael J. McCoy decided to free Thompson because he promised to get investigators information about an Arizona man who paid for the videos, the Dispatch said.

Federal authorities became involved in the case when Thompson failed to return.
