Judge Robert Swisher ruled Tuesday that Phiengchai Sisouvanh Synhavong, 27, appears to be putting on a show of mental illness, The Tacoma News Tribune reported. The judge said he believes she knows when "to slip into a delusional mode."
Araceli Camacho Gomez was stabbed in 2008. Prosecutors say Sisouvanh Synhavong offered her free baby clothes, stabbed her after the pregnant woman had gotten into the back seat of her car and then dumped her body in a Kennewick, Wash., park.
Before Camacho Gomez's body was found, Sisouvanh Synhavong called 911, saying she had just given birth and the baby was having problems. But doctors realized when they examined her she was not the mother.
Andy Miller argued staffers at a state hospital noticed Sisouvanh Synhavong acted more irrational when she believed she was being watched, carrying a rolled up blanket she claimed was her baby son and accusing police of kidnapping her. At other times, he said, she would play cards with patients and joke with them.
