Sailors charged in sexual assault

GROTON, Conn., April 14 (UPI) -- Three U.S. sailors charged in the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl will appear in a Connecticut court April 28 to enter pleas, court documents indicate.

The three crew members of the USS Philadelphia were arraigned after surrendering to police in Groton, The (New London, Conn.) Day reported Wednesday.

Gabriel Dominguez, 21, of Manteca, Calif., was ordered held on $150,000 cash bond Monday on charges of aggravated first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child.

Benjamin Boyter, 22, of Woodruff, S.C., and Keith Douglas, 23, of Schoolcraft, Mich., were released from custody on $50,000 surety bond after being charged with risk of injury to a child.

The arrest warrant says the three sailors met the victim at a cookout July 4, 2009, and the victim engaged in sexual activity with Dominguez in a parked pick-up truck.

When questioned by police, Dominguez said he did not have sex with the victim and thought her to be 17- to 20 years old.
