Accused teen spree killer appears in court

JERSEY CITY, N.J., April 13 (UPI) -- A Jersey City, N.J., teen accused of killing five people since February answered "yes sir" and "no sir" to a judge during a 10-minute hearing, officials said.

Shiquan Bellamy, 19, who is being held on $6 million bail, is charged with two double murders and a single killing beginning Feb. 5, the Jersey Journal reported Tuesday.

Bellamy talked with his lawyer and appeared calm at the hearing when he was asked if he understood the charges against him. He is accused of the fatal Feb. 5 shootings of Mileak Richardson, 17, and his cousin Lester Thompson, 26; the March 27 slaying of Lamonte Wright, 20; and the April 4 shooting deaths of Nia Haqq, 25, and Michael Muchoiki, 27.

Two other suspects, Hakeem Lester and Ronald Lawrence were charged in the killings of Richardson and Thompson earlier, the newspaper said. Latonia Bellamy, Bellamy's cousin, and Darmelia Lawrence, 19, are charged in the slayings of Muchoiki and Haqq.
