4 kids, 1 adult die in mobile home fire

SULPHUR WELL, Ky., April 7 (UPI) -- A fire in a mobile home in a rural area in Kentucky killed four children and an adult early Wednesday.

Nine people were hospitalized, including two who were taken by helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital, KWTX.com reported.

The fire at the home in Sulphur Well, about 100 miles south of Louisville, was reported at 3:30 a.m., said Ricki Gardenhire, a spokeswoman for the Kentucky State Fire Marshal. She said the state police arson unit is trying to determine the cause.

Three of the dead children were aged 1, 2 and 3 and the third was 11 or 12, Gardenhire said.

Seven adults, all with injuries they are expected to survive, were taken to a hospital in Glasgow. The two taken to Louisville were more seriously burned.
