RNC's McKay leaves chief of staff post

WASHINGTON, April 5 (UPI) -- Republican National Committee Chief of Staff Ken McKay resigned Monday amid criticism of an expenditure at a racy nightclub in Los Angeles, the RNC said Monday.

McKay's resignation comes one week after it was reported the RNC's January expenditure report included a reimbursement request of almost $2,000 for a trip to Voyeur, a bondage-themed club in Los Angeles.

McKa will be replaced by longtime party loyalist Mike Leavitt, The Washington Post said.

The Washington publication, Politico, first reported McKay's departure.

McKay was named chief of staff after a successful stint in Rhode Island where he managed Gov. Don Carcieri's 2002 and 2006 races and was the governor's chief of staff.
