SAN ANTONIO, April 1 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army major charged in the November shootings at Fort Hood, Texas, was poised to be transferred from a hospital to a jail cell, his lawyer said.

Maj. Nidal Hasan has been at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio since he was shot by police while allegedly firing on troops at the Texas base.

"He was given a discharge physical within the past hour," Hasan's lawyer, John Galligan, told the San Antonio Express News Wednesday evening. "That to me is an indication that they're going to move him."

For security reasons, the Army won't say when Hasan will be moved from Brooke to the Bell County jail in nearby Belton, KENS-TV, San Antonio, said Thursday.

Hasan faces 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted murder. He is scheduled for a hearing on his pending court martial on June 1.

Hasan, a military psychiatrist, is accused of going on a shooting spree prior to his deployment to Afghanistan.
