Barbara Bush out of hospital

HOUSTON, March 31 (UPI) -- Barbara Bush was released from a Houston hospital Wednesday after tests indicated she hadn't been feeling well because of a thyroid condition, officials said.

The hospital issued a statement saying the 84-year-old former U.S. first lady, who had been admitted to Methodist Hospital Saturday, was "alert, talkative and appeared to be getting stronger" after doctors adjusted her medication for a mild relapse of her Graves' disease, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Methodist officials said she is expected to make a full recovery and should soon return to her normal activities.

Symptoms of Graves' disease, a form of hyperthyroidism, include difficulty sleeping, fatigue, rapid or irregular heartbeats, and weight loss.
