Pilot hurt in California hang glider crash

CONCORD, Calif., March 29 (UPI) -- A California man was in critical condition Monday after his hang glider crashed on to a sidewalk outside a San Francisco Bay Area elementary school.

Christopher McKeon, 49, of Lafayette, suffered head injuries in the mishap that occurred Sunday afternoon in Concord, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Police said McKeon apparently went off course and was trying to land on the school's playground when the aircraft plunged about 30 feet to a cement sidewalk.

McKeon was part of a hang-glider group that took off from Mount Diablo State Park. He somehow was separated from the other hang gliders and crashed several miles from their destination.
