Teen gets 50 years for church molestation

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., March 24 (UPI) -- A teenager who admitted molesting five boys at the Virginia church where he was a Sunday school assistant has been sentenced to at least 50 years in prison.

Shea Ryan Huffman, 19, listened Tuesday as the parents of his victims described the effect the abuse had on their sons, The Virginian-Pilot reported.

Huffman pleaded guilty in November. He was arrested in June after a boy told his family Huffman had sexually assaulted him at the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Kempsville.

At the sentencing hearing in Virginia Beach, Circuit Judge Edward Hanson Jr. imposed a sentence of 280 years with an active sentence 10 years longer than the 40 years recommended by the sentencing guidelines.

"The children are scarred for life, and so are their families, and so is the church," Hanson said. "I can't undo what happened, but I can try and prevent it from happening again to other children."

Huffman's grandmother testified he was physically abused in early childhood. She and her husband raised him after bruises were found on his body when he was 3.
