Man charged with kicking burglar

WOODBRIDGE, Va., March 20 (UPI) -- A Virginia homeowner has been charged with assaulting a burglary suspect by kicking him in the face as he lay on the ground being handcuffed.

Reginald Anderson, 44, of Woodbridge did not acknowledge the assault during an interview with The Washington Post. He also did not deny he kicked Irvin Lambert, 55, the newspaper said.

Anderson said he learned of the burglary on March 13 while he was getting a haircut when his daughter, Diamond, 17, called him to tell him there was an intruder in the house. She had locked herself in a bedroom with her 4-year-old cousin.

Diamond, on her father's instructions, called police while he raced home.

"From that point on, you're not thinking clearly," he said. "The biggest thing for me was feeling violated and that my daughter and nephew were in the house."

Anderson said he got home just as the first police officer arrived. He saw a man running away and gave chase, joined by the officer, who caught the suspect.

Police said Lambert was carrying latex gloves and wire cutters.

Lambert, suspected of three other break-ins in January and February, has been charged with four counts of burglary and two of grand larceny.
