Wild mountain lion captured in New Mexico

SANTA FE, N.M., March 18 (UPI) -- State officials say a wounded mountain lion repeatedly spotted in parts of Santa Fe, N.M., was captured and will be relocated to a more appropriate location.

New Mexico Department of Game and Fish official Brandon Griffith said the mountain lion sedated and captured Wednesday is likely the same large cat recently seen visiting Santa Fe neighborhoods, The Santa Fe New Mexican reported.

"They tracked the lion through the snow yesterday, and it left blood on the snow from an injured right front paw," said Griffith.

Department spokesman Marty Frentzel said once the mountain lion is treated for its injury, it would be relocated to the Carson National Forest.

The New Mexican said wildlife officials considered the large cat appropriate for release in the park because the 150-pound animal appeared frightened of humans.
