ANCHORAGE, Alaska, March 18 (UPI) -- Alaskan wildlife officials say they are calling off the search for the pack of wolves believed responsible for the death of jogger Candice Berner.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game says its staff "will remain in close contact" with residents of the Chignik Lake area to monitor wolf sightings and activities, the Anchorage Daily News reports.
Biologist Lem Butler says it is highly likely wolves killed the 32-year-old special education teacher last week.
Two sets of wolf tracks were found on the road where Berner had been jogging.
Department staff killed two wolves west of Chignik Lake Monday.
"After conducting a two-day search for other wolf signs and finding none, I also conclude that there is a low likelihood of finding additional wolves in the near future if the search is continued," Butler said.
He said the department may conduct a second search of the area in early April.
