WASHINGTON, March 15 (UPI) -- U.S. Census Bureau Director Robert M. Groves said 2010 Census forms delivered Monday nationwide are simple to complete and return.

Groves said in a Census Bureau release this year's Census form only contains 10 questions, meaning it could be completed in about 10 minutes and promptly mailed back.

"It's one of the shortest forms in our lifetime with just 10 questions very much like the questions James Madison and Thomas Jefferson helped craft on the very first Census," Groves said.

The Census Bureau estimates it could save $1.5 billion in Census costs if all U.S. households successfully completed the forms and placed them in the mail for delivery.

"It's a lot less expensive to get responses back by mail than it is to send census takers to knock on doors of households that failed to respond," Groves said.

To improve participation in the Census via the mail, Census workers sent out advance letters last week and are planning on issuing reminder postcards to residents before the end of the month.
