HEMET, Calif., March 11 (UPI) -- Two California teenagers wanted in the killing of a 16-year-old boy were found in Mexico and escorted back to California after a 4-month manhunt, police said.

Jose Campos, 18, and his 17-year-old girlfriend, Felicia Sharp, were booked at the Hemet, Calif., police station in Riverside County and questioned Wednesday night.

They had been turned over by Mexican authorities after being found in the border city of Mexicali, Baja California, 258 miles south of Hemet, The (Riverside, Calif.) Press-Enterprise reported.

Campos and Sharp had been sought since Adrian Rios was allegedly killed at Campos' Hemet home.

"When I got the call (from Mexican authorities), I was very happy that this 4-month grind of an investigation was finally solved," the newspaper quoted Sgt. Dave Quinn as saying.

"It was a long car ride," he said.

Friends said Rios had gone to Campos' home the afternoon of Nov. 15 to watch a San Diego Chargers football game with at least five other people, the newspaper said. Police say Campos shot Rios that afternoon and then tried to cover up the killing with Sharp's help by dismembering the body and burning it in a bonfire behind the home and then burying the remains.

Neighbors noticed the fire and a foul smell but did not call police, the newspaper said.

The Riverside County coroner's office identified the charred remains from the bonfire as Rios's Dec. 15.

Police do not know the motive for the killing, Chief Richard Dana said at a news conference.
