RHINEBECK, N.Y., March 11 (UPI) -- New York state police said a 44-year-old man died after being shot with a Taser by a Dutchess County sheriff's deputy.

The Kingston Daily Freeman said Thursday James J. Healy of Rhinebeck was shot with the stun gun after he resisted attempts to remove him from a home early Wednesday.

State police said in a statement Dutchess County sheriff's deputies and state troopers arrived at the home in response to a domestic dispute call involving a potential drug overdose.

Authorities said Healy acted combative when authorities attempted to make him leave. A deputy used a Taser on Healy when the suspect began physically struggling with police.

Police said Healy soon developed breathing problems and was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was scheduled.
