SALT LAKE CITY, March 10 (UPI) -- Police say they are searching for a statue stolen last month from the International Peace Gardens in Salt Lake City.

The Salt Lake Tribune said Tuesday the 3-foot-tall Little Mermaid statue had been at the botanical garden for more than five decades before it disappeared.

The statue, reported stolen on Feb. 26, is a 1955 replica of the Little Mermaid statue that sits in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The replica was donated to the garden by a Latter Day Saint Danish organization and the Danish people of Utah.

The Tribune said other replicas are also housed in Hong Kong and Bern, Switzerland.
