DAYTON, Ohio, March 10 (UPI) -- A center alleges in a lawsuit against a firm with properties in Dayton, Ohio, the company committed discrimination by advertising a so-called bachelor pad.
The Dayton (Ohio) Daily News said Wednesday the Miami Valley Fair Housing Center filed a discrimination lawsuit against The Connor Group, which owns and operates nearly 1,900 apartment units in the area in and around Dayton.
The federal suit filed Friday by the center, a local non-profit group dedicated to fair housing, comes after The Connor Group posted a Craiglist advertisement for "a great bachelor pad for any single man looking to hook up."
The center said in the suit the April 2009 posting "appeared to state a preference for a single male, discriminating on the basis of sex and familial status."
The Ohio Civil Rights Commission investigated the posting after the center complained to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Daily News said.
Housing Enforcement Director Ronnell Tomlinson said in a letter the commission suspects The Connor Group may have taken part in discriminatory practices.
