NEW YORK, March 6 (UPI) -- Pilots are showing support for the New York air traffic controller caught letting his 9-year-old twins instruct pilots while they were in flight, observers say.
The New York Daily News says some pilots are broadcasting messages of support, while others are signing off "with adios" -- the improvised signoff from controller Glenn Duffy''s 9-year-old son.
"Thoughts going out to your co-worker there. I think it's BS what he's going through," one pilot was recorded as saying on the Web site Liveatc.net, the Daily News reported.
But responses have been definitely negative from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Air Traffic Controllers Association following the two incidents at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Pending an FAA investigation, Duffy and supervisor Shawn Adams have been suspended with pay, and the supervisor in a second incident, Rose Kelly, has been the target of disciplinary action, the Daily News said.
Though Duffy could not be contacted, the newspaper reported his relatives say his twin girl and boy have been blaming themselves.
