Joe Kennedy III says being DA fine for now

BOSTON, March 1 (UPI) -- Joseph P. Kennedy III said he won't run for U.S. Congress in 2010, dispelling speculation that the attorney would if Rep. William Delahunt, D-Mass., retires.

Kennedy, son of former U.S. Rep, Joseph P. Kennedy II and grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, who was seeking the Democratic presidential nomination when he was assassinated in 1968, said he was happy as an assistant district attorney for the Cape Cod, Mass., area and didn't plan to seek another office yet, The Boston Globe reported.

"I think that we've got a great congressman. He continues to serve the people of the 10th District well," the 29-year-old Kennedy said of Delahunt. "I'm a longtime supporter of his, and I hope he runs again."

Kennedy, however, said wouldn't rule out a future bid for another office.

"Elective office and public service are obviously something that have long ties with my family, and something I'm definitely interested in," Kennedy said. "Right now, I've got a job I love, and hope to get better at."

Kennedy said he was approached by Democrats about running after reports indicated Delahunt was considering retiring at the end of his term this year.

Delahunt has said he weighs whether to run for re-election every March during an election year, and has not decided whether he will seek another term.

Delahunt spokesman Mark Forest told the Globe "nothing has changed," adding that the congressman was considering his options.
