Boy accidentally kills brother in shooting

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., March 1 (UPI) -- Authorities in Broward County, Fla., say it appears a 10-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his 11-year-old brother with their father's handgun.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office said it appears the death of Randy Reddick III was the result of an accidental shooting involving his younger brother and the Glock pistol his father had left in his truck's console, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel said Sunday.

Randy Reddick Jr., 31, told authorities Saturday's shooting took place when he sent his two sons to his truck to retrieve his coat and hat.

Reddick said his younger son soon came into their home screaming he had accidentally shot his brother. Reddick said he raced to his other son, only to find the boy dead from a gunshot to the face.

"I knelt down to see if there was life. There wasn't," he told the Sun-Sentinel.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said the shooting is being reviewed, but initial signs point towards an accident.

The Sun-Sentinel said Reddick, who has a concealed weapon permit, placed his gun in his truck's console in order to enter a post office where firearms are not permitted.
