MIAMI SPRINGS, Fla., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- An FBI spokeswoman said a man once known as "the Joker" robber has been arrested in Florida on suspicion of committing multiple bank robberies.
FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela said Steven Gass, who served nearly a decade in prison for past bank robberies, is facing two counts of bank robbery and could eventually face additional charges over a recent string of robberies, The Miami Herald said Wednesday.
"He is definitely not new to this,'' Orihuela said of Gass, 55. "He has done this before."
Gass earned the nickname "the Joker" for his habit of using notes that read "This is no joke" during his robbery attempts.
Authorities have rebranded Gass "the Old Man Bandit" in connection with his alleged involvement in the robberies of several banks in South Florida during the last two years, the Herald reported.
Gass was arrested for the recent thefts after individuals identified him from surveillance videos of the bank robbery suspect.
