Michelle Kasseris, 33, of Killingly, Conn., was taken into custody Monday and charged with risk of injury to a minor, The Hartford (Conn.) Courant reported.
The girl was absent from her middle school last week, leading school officials to call police, who found her at home unsupervised, the newspaper said.
The Department of Children and Families took her into custody.
Contacted by phone in Florida, Kasseris first said she went there because of a death in her family, nbcconnecticut.com reported.
She allegedly told police she had not made arrangements for anyone to watch her daughter and wouldn't return until Friday, Feb. 19.
But when police returned to her home Monday, they found Kasseris there and arrested her, nbcconnecticut.com said.
