Fla. judge denies bond in sex slave case

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- A judge in Orange County, Fla., said he will not grant bond to a man accused of kidnapping a teenage girl and forcing her to live as a sex slave.

The Orlando Sentinel said Thursday Orange County Circuit Judge Roger McDonald denied a defense request for bond for Timothy Lamar Smith, who is facing kidnapping charges for the alleged abduction of the 15-year-old girl.

Public defender Chalon Carroll Young, who is representing Smith, attempted to earn bond for Smith by claiming the female victim's story has varied in the past.

"The victim's varying statements is enough to throw this whole thing into dispute," Young told the court Thursday.

Ultimately, McDonald denied bond on the kidnapping with intent to inflict harm charges. The judge did grant a bond of $100,000 for the charge of human trafficking against Smith, along with an additional $100,000 on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The Sentinel said Smith, who allegedly used the teen as a sex slave for nearly a month, will face trial starting June 21.
