Romney rips Obama at CPAC

WASHINGTON, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama will be remembered as "the biggest exaggeration since Al Gore's invention of the Internet," former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said.

Speaking in Washington Thursday to the Conservative Political Action Conference, the one-time Republican presidential hopeful reminded the audience that Obama gave himself a B-plus for his first year in office, The Hill reported.

"Tell that to the 4 million Americans who lost their jobs last year," Romney said. "President Obama's self-proclaimed B-plus will go down in history as the biggest exaggeration since Al Gore's invention of the Internet."

Romney defended Republicans' refusal to support the Democrats' legislative agenda, saying, "Obama "accuses us of being the party of 'no.' ... It's as if he thinks that saying 'no' is by definition a bad thing."

The party was right to say "no" to cap and trade as a way to help address climate change, card check for unions, "government healthcare and higher taxes."

Looking to the midterm elections, Romney said former President George W. Bush no longer could be blamed for the condition of the country.

"It's wearing so thin it's a regular joke on late night TV," he said, before starting a defense of the Bush administration, The Hill said.

Because of the Democrats' "reckless" agenda, Romney predicted the GOP would recapture Congress in the next election.

"Obama, (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi, (Senate Majority Leader) Harry Reid and their team have failed the American people, and that is why their majority will soon be out the door," he said.
