CLEVELAND, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- An Ohio doctor has confessed to killing his wife five years ago, the medic's brother says.
Firas Essa, brother of Gates Mills, Ohio, doctor Yazeed Essa, testified in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Monday that his brother confessed to the 2005 slaying of Rosemarie Essa, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported.
The newspaper said Firas Essa told the court his brother told him he killed his wife by emptying her calcium supplement capsules and refilling them with cyanide.
"I told him he was a (expletive)," Essa reportedly said. "Because he took Rosie's life, and I loved her. He ruined his whole family."
The Plain Dealer said gasps were heard in the courtroom as Firas Essa testified. The newspaper reported that Yazeed Essa shook his head and gripped his chair as his brother delivered his testimony.
Assistant County Prosecutor Steven Dever said Firas Essa and his brother were at one point planning a cover-up scheme. Firas Essa then testified he decided to tell the truth because he didn't want to risk being convicted on obstruction of justice and perjury charges, The Plain Dealer said.
