NEW YORK, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Jenny Sanford, wife of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, said Monday she is concerned her sons will be impacted by her husband's infidelity.

Jenny Sanford told "Good Morning America" the infidelity scandal surrounding her husband has made trying to raise their four sons into morally conscious individuals into a more difficult task.

"My hope is in the long run they'll be better men for it, better husbands and fathers in the long run," Jenny Sanford, 47, said. "These are weighty subjects to have to discuss with your children."

"You get one good shot to raise your kids and we've had a lot of challenges thrown on our plate this year," she added.

The scandal surrounding Mark Sanford began last summer when the Republican official admitted to having an extramarital affair with Maria Belen Chapur of Argentina.

Jenny Sanford said she first learned of her husband's affair in January 2009 after finding an incriminating letter.

"I would rather have kept it quiet if I could and resolve it peacefully and quietly," she told "Good Morning America."
