Tea Party official eyeing 2010 campaigns

NASHVILLE, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- A top organizer of the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville says he is forming a committee that will focus on six area 2010 congressional campaigns.

Mark Skoda, second-in-command at the convention, said he is hopeful his Ensuring Liberty Corp. and Political Action Committee will be able to raise as much as $10 million this year for those campaigns, The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal said Saturday.

"The PAC and the corporation will be used to organize, to raise funds, to allow us to establish the workings and the competencies necessary to support candidates across the country," Skoda said.

The committee will be based in Memphis and will focus on the congressional races in Tennessee's s 6th, 8th and 9th congressional districts.

In addition to supporting conservative candidates in those districts, the committee will aid candidates in the 1st districts in Mississippi and Arkansas, as well as the U.S. Senate race in Arkansas.

National Tea Party Convention organizers said more than 600 people attended the Nashville event with more than 90 percent of attendees coming from outside of Tennessee, the Commercial Appeal said.
