LUCASVILLE, Ohio, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Death row inmate Mark Brown was executed via lethal injection Thursday in Ohio for the murders of two men at a convenience store, authorities say.
The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Bureau of Communications confirmed in a release Brown, 37, was declared dead at 10:49 a.m. EST as a result of a one-drug lethal injection at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility.
Brown was convicted of fatally shooting Midway Market owner Isam Salman and clerk Hayder al-Turk at the convenience store in Youngstown Jan. 28, 1994.
Court records show the deadly shootings came as Brown was robbing the store and occurred after Brown and a friend consumed wine laced with Valium, The Columbus Dispatch reported.
Brown, who was executed for Salman's murder, blamed his actions on the Valium.
"They make you go off," he said.
Thursday's execution came after litigation aimed at helping Brown avoid the death penalty failed in state and federal courts.
