CRYSTAL, Nev., Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Authorities in Nye County, Nev., said the operators of a small airplane and a car escaped serious injury after the airplane struck the car.

Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo said the driver of the car suffered a non-life-threatening head injury when the single-engine airplane's landing gear hit the top of the car, damaging the car's roof and windshields, the Las Vegas Review-Journal said Sunday.

Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot, whose identity was not released, admitted he was purposefully attempting to fly close to the car when Saturday's collision occurred.

DeMeo said the pilot and the driver, whose identity was also not released, did know one another. The sheriff did not offer additional details about the connection between the two individuals.

Gregor told the Review-Journal that federal regulations stipulate a pilot is supposed to keep a minimum distance of 500 feet between their aircraft and any person, vehicle or structure.
