The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported at least 86 traffic accidents, including 27 with injuries Thursday.

The storms left thousands of homes in Oklahoma without power Thursday; portions of interstate highways were closed because of downed power lines, the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management said.

Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry also declared a state of emergency.

Airlines canceled dozens of flights in Texas and Oklahoma.

Strong winds ripped the roof off a nursing home near Fort Worth, Texas, CNN reported. The nursing home relocated its 24 residents, Nursing Director Toni Headstream said, adding no one was hurt.

Besides affecting parts of Oklahoma and Texas Friday, forecasters said the system was expected to head into Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Forecasters said the storm should move into Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and parts of northern Georgia on Saturday.
