Students get sick from tainted brownies

UNION HILL, Calif., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- A San Francisco-area school says five students got sick from brownies they believed were laced with marijuana.

Two boys at James Logan High School in Union Hill had to be taken to a hospital last week after they went into convulsions, Rick LaPlante, a spokesman for the New Haven Unified School District, told the San Francisco Chronicle. A girl and two other boys also ate the brownies and got sick.

All five students could face disciplinary action, LaPlante said. The district has not yet discovered whether the students got the brownies at the school or outside.

Parents were told in a phone message Friday that the students ate brownies "laced with ingredients that have caused the students to become under the influence and/or painfully sick."

But police in Union City said they had yet to determine what substance the brownies contained.

"No substance has been identified, and we have no idea ... who provided or purchased the brownies," said police Lt. Ben Horner.
