'Avatar' soars for 6th straight weekend

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- "Avatar" took the No. 1 spot at the U.S. box office for the sixth straight weekend, raking in $36 million in estimated box office receipts.

'Legion' was second during it first weekend with $18.2 million.

All gross estimated receipts are from Box Office Mojo.

"The Book of Eli" was third with $17 million; "The Tooth Fairy" fourth with $14.5 million; "The Lovely Bones" fifth with $8.8 million; "Sherlock Holmes" sixth with more than $7.11 million.

"Extraordinary Measures" was seventh with $7 million; "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" eighth with $6.5 million; and "It's Complicated" ninth with $6.19 million.

"The Spy Next Door" rounded out the top 10 with $4.75 million.
