Gov. to give GOP response to Obama speech

WASHINGTON, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Republican officials said Virginia Gov. Robert McDonnell will give the party's response to U.S. President Barack Obama's State of the Union address next week.

McDonnell's office said he was asked to deliver the response by Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and House Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio, The Washington Post reported.

McDonnell's response will be delivered Jan. 27, the night of Obama's address.
